Training video for Cater Care, showcasing safe meal prep under the IDDSI guidelines in aged care settings.
A clear and practical training video for Cater Care, focused on food safety in aged care. This video breaks down the IDDSI framework with real kitchen footage, expert guidance, and motion graphics to support staff in preparing safe, compliant meals.
This project required a careful, compliance-led approach. The goal was to produce a training video that clearly communicates the IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) framework, a global standard that ensures food and drink are safely prepared for individuals with swallowing difficulties, particularly in aged care settings. In pre-production, we collaborated closely with Cater Care to understand the technical content, regulations, and real-world scenarios that needed to be addressed. Script development was a major focus, as we had to strike the right balance between informative, accessible, and engaging, ensuring clarity for aged care staff at all levels. We also conducted location scouting to find kitchen and meal service environments that reflected genuine aged care settings. Every scene was mapped out to reinforce best practices while aligning visually with Cater Care’s brand and tone.
Filming took place across a couple of days in live working kitchen environments, giving the video a realistic and grounded tone. With a focus on accuracy and clarity, we captured real-time preparation and plating techniques that aligned with the various IDDSI texture levels, from pureed to soft and bite-sized. Our team coordinated tightly with food safety experts and Cater Care trainers on set to ensure every process was portrayed correctly. Lighting and framing choices were tailored to keep shots clean, instructional, and easy to follow, especially important for training content. The production also included interview-style pieces and voiceover, making the material feel more human and connected rather than overly clinical. This added warmth to a topic that’s often purely procedural, making the content more approachable for staff.
In post-production, clarity and consistency were key. We used graphics and motion overlays to label IDDSI levels, call out key procedures, and highlight important safety information throughout the video. The pacing was structured to allow viewers to absorb and retain the information without feeling overwhelmed. The final product is a clear, professional, and practical training video that’s now used across Cater Care’s aged care facilities to onboard and educate staff. It serves as a vital tool in enhancing food safety, supporting compliance, and ultimately protecting vulnerable residents, delivered in a way that’s informative, digestible, and visually strong.
