QLD Health - Winter Wellness Campaign

Don’t Let the Flu Take Your Breath Away.

The Queensland Government's "Don't Let the Flu Take Your Breath Away" campaign delivers a poignant message about the profound impact of influenza on everyday Australians. Through intimate portrayals of individuals in their daily environments, the video underscores how the flu can disrupt even the most routine aspects of life. This compelling narrative serves as a heartfelt call to action, urging the public to take advantage of free flu vaccinations and adopt preventive measures such as regular handwashing and covering coughs.

Behind the curtain

After an in-depth concept and vision development process with QLD Health, we moved into production—scouting locations, casting talent, and bringing the entire concept to life. To authentically capture the diverse experiences of Australians affected by the flu, IPER orchestrated a meticulously planned two-day shoot. The production featured a series of vignettes, each spotlighting individuals from various walks of life within their personal settings. This approach aimed to reflect the universal vulnerability to influenza, emphasising that it can impact anyone, regardless of age or background. The production design team worked diligently to ensure each setting resonated with authenticity, selecting locations and props that mirrored the everyday lives of the subjects. In the below documents you can see some of the pre-production research the crew completed. This attention to detail was crucial in creating relatable scenarios that would resonate deeply with the audience. Despite the ambitious shooting schedule, the professionalism and efficiency of the crew allowed for a seamless production process, culminating in a powerful and emotive final product.

Crafting the Emotional Narrative

(2)
Process

Central to the campaign's impact is its focus on personal stories that highlight the disruptive nature of the flu. Each vignette was crafted to depict the challenges faced by individuals as they navigate daily activities while battling the illness. Scenes portrayed moments such as a parent struggling to care for their child, a young professional unable to attend work, and an elderly individual facing heightened health risks. The cinematography employed close-up shots to convey the physical and emotional toll of the flu, allowing viewers to connect intimately with each subject's experience. Natural lighting and a subdued colour palette were utilised to enhance the realism and gravity of the situations depicted. Direction focused on eliciting genuine performances, capturing the subtle nuances of discomfort and fatigue associated with the flu. This approach ensured that the portrayals remained sincere and relatable, fostering a strong empathetic response from the audience.

Execution & Impact

Post-production played a crucial role in shaping the final narrative of the campaign. The editing process focused on weaving together multiple personal stories in a seamless and emotionally engaging way. By carefully balancing pacing and scene transitions, we ensured that each moment resonated with viewers while maintaining a natural flow. Subtle sound design reinforced the message, with ambient household noises emphasising the contrast between normal life and the struggles caused by the flu. The grading process brought a warm yet slightly muted tone, aligning with the campaign’s mix of realism and emotional depth. Once released, the QLD Winter Wellness Campaign gained strong traction across various platforms. Its relatable and visually compelling approach struck a chord with audiences, driving home the importance of flu prevention. The campaign successfully raised public awareness about free flu vaccinations and simple yet effective hygiene habits. With widespread engagement and positive reception, it proved to be an impactful initiative in promoting community health.

What we do
Bec Stewart
Marketing & Administration Officer, Coolum State High School

Travis and the IPER crew were brilliant to work with. Not only did they produce an amazing product, they did so whilst directing approximately 100 teenagers, in multiple locations, over five long days of filming! Not an easy task! They steered our school project in a creative, emotive direction, and produced a video that told a story. Our video encompasses all of the particulars we needed it to, in a visually-beautiful style. Thank you IPER - we are extremely grateful for all your time and efforts.

We've been using IPER for several years for all our video shooting and production needs. They're always fast, great quality and cost effective. They also do some great recorded translation work.

The result exceeded expectations and IPER's understanding of the target audience was obvious.

We recently used Iper to film 6 mental health literacy films and they were incredible! The team were responsive, reliable, always prompt, made us feel comfortable on the day and were absolute guns at turning our messy scripts into clear, concise and professional films. The editing phase was easy, they use an online interactive platform and again, were always responsive to comments and feedback. We are stoked with the outcome and would recommend them to anyone looking at creating films!
