Screenplay and Its Components (Part one) | Video Production

In order to understand the whole Video Production better, we first have to discuss various components.

Now and there, We are going to talk about screenplay and its components. The screenplay is a written work made for some movie, video spot or television program. An Artist which writes that kind of work is a so called screenwriter.
When we talk about screenplay, We are actually talking about some original piece of work, never seen before, or about some adaptation from already existing pieces of writing ( some novel, drama etc. ).

No matter which way made, each screenplay contains the movement action, dialogues and expression of the characters. The screenplay for one movie, for example, numbering at least 80 pages of written work, is formatted and structured in that way that each page of written work equates approximately to one minute of screen time.

The screenplay major components are action and dialogue. This time We are going to talk mostly about dialogue.
The dialogue is a literary form consisting of conversational exchange between two or more people. In our case, the dialogue in screenplay is absolutely the same literary form, but written down to be spoken out. We have to mention one not so typical, but very old and important work from ancient Greece.

Plato is one of the greatest philosophers of ancient time. He was living in the 5th and 4th century B.C. His teacher is the famous Socrates. As an extremely honest Man, He was teaching his students not what to think, but how to do it – what is the way to find the truth, if there is a truth at all…In that time, the Great Solon was for a long time dead and some limited people forced Socrates to drink out some poison and finish his life that way. His wife’s name was Xanthippe. Beside that kind of woman, everybody would do the same with a pleasure.

Plato’s works about Socrates are in form of dialogues. We shall remember ourselves about a couple of segments of that one with Crittias, and another pupil of Socrates.

Screenplay Pt1

Socrates:”…And now, friend Crittias, I will announce to You the judgment of the theatre. They are of opinion that the last performer was wonderfully successful , and that You will need a great deal of indulgence before You will be able to take his place.”

Crittias:”…Let me begin by observing first of all, that nine thousand was the sum of the years which had elapsed since the war which was said to have taken place between those who dwelt outside the Pillars of Heracles and all who dwelt within them – this war I am going to describe. Of the combatants on the one side, the city of Athens was reported to have been the leader and to have fought out the war. Combatants on the other side were commanded by the king of Atlantis which, as was saying, was an island greater in extent than Libya and Asia, and when afterwards sunk by an earthquake, become an impassable barrier of mud to voyagers sailing from hence to any part of the ocean…”

From another side, a monologue is a literary form presented through a single character, usually used to express their mental thoughts and feelings aloud, or their speech to some third person( or group of them ) which is temporary absent from the scene, in a physical or psychical way. For example, the very famous monologue is that one from William Shakespeare’s drama ” Hamlet “, when king Claudius and Polonius observe Prince of Denmark behind an arras.

Hamlet:

“To be or not to be – that is the question :
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them…”

The Shakespearean Theater is one of the most beautiful and most attractive phenomenon that ever appeared in the very long and wealthy History of Art. Always keeping a very high grade of qualities, those very great Artists are holding for a long time that Column Shakespeareana, in its waste magic , on a place generally important for the whole Mankind.

There is a story related to a monumental work of William Shakespeare. According to some people, that Giant’s life intention is to guide us, little men, through that magnificent work, how the Elysian Fields actually look like, that Fortunate Island whose only rule is the love for Art, where the Heroes even when they die, die only that performing night. The next morning they are ready to die for us again and again…

So much for this time! In the future, We shall continue to talk about the best dialogues ever heard , artists, movies and plays related to them. Stay tuned for SCREENPLAY AND IT’S COMPONENTS ( Part two ) | Video Production .
