A direct and considered awareness video helping students recognise sexual violence and understand unacceptable behaviours.
University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) engaged IPER to create a sexual violence awareness video designed to educate students about the behaviours that constitute sexual violence and why recognising them matters. For such an important and sensitive subject, the creative approach needed to be clear, respectful and impactful without distracting from the message. We developed a stripped-back piece-to-camera style that placed the focus entirely on the words being delivered and the students delivering them.
The video was created to help UniSC students better recognise and understand sexual violence, including behaviours that may not always be immediately identified as unacceptable. With the subject matter at the centre of every creative decision, our approach was intentionally direct. Rather than overcomplicating the message with locations, scenarios or elaborate visuals, we kept the students and their words front and centre.

The piece was filmed against a black background using moody, high-contrast lighting to create a serious and focused visual style. The simplicity of the setup removed distractions and allowed each statement to land with the weight it deserved. Production was completed during a half-day shoot, with UniSC students volunteering to appear on camera. Featuring students themselves helped the message feel grounded in the university community and appropriate for the audience it was created to reach.

From production through to the final edit, our focus was on treating the subject matter with care while keeping the information clear and accessible. Focused performances, considered editing and the stark visual treatment came together to create an awareness piece that speaks directly to students and supports a broader understanding of sexual violence and the importance of recognising unacceptable behaviour.
